Landscapes for Life is a mission-driven initiative within Art Happens that gifts original landscape paintings to cancer patients. Each piece is created to bring comfort, color, and a sense of peace into rooms that can often feel small and heavy. Inspired by a personal experience during Adam’s father’s battle with cancer, the project exists to offer moments of peace when they’re needed most. Through art, we aim to remind patients and families that beauty and love are still present — even in the hardest seasons.
how it works.
1. You Make a Purchase
When you buy a Landscapes for Life original painting or designated print, you are not just purchasing art. You are giving someone joy in their hardest time.
2. We Match Your Purchase
For every piece purchased, an additional original "sister painting" or print is set aside to be gifted through our program.
3. Art Is Gifted to Someone Fighting Cancer
That piece is then thoughtfully delivered to an individual currently facing cancer, offering encouragement, beauty, and a reminder that they are not alone.

Select prints in our store directly contribute to Landscapes for Life. When you purchase a designated landscape print, a portion of the proceeds funds gifted paintings for terminal or immobile cancer patients. Collect meaningful art and help fill someone else’s room with color.
the stories behind the mission.

JD Long
JD Long was a devoted husband, father, and the best friend a son could have. When he battled cancer, his world gradually became smaller, many days spent resting, surrounded by quiet walls and stillness. During that season, a simple landscape painting became more than art; it became a window. A place for his eyes to wander when his body could not.
On July 24, 2022, JD spoke his final words of love and passed peacefully.
His life, his strength, and that painting are the foundation of Landscapes for Life.
JD’s legacy lives on in every landscape gifted — a reminder that even in life’s hardest chapters, beauty and love remain.

Kelsey Collard
Kelsey Sierra Collard-Cazee was a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army and a proud veteran of two tours of duty. She was also a devoted mother, loving wife, passionate teacher, mentor, and friend. At just 34 years old, Kelsey passed away on April 22, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with stage 4 cancer.
Kelsey embodied strength, service, and heart. Even while facing her own diagnosis, she remained an inspiration to those around her. She had a deep love for animals and once shared her dream of visiting the redwood forests — a vision that inspired the painting Forest Friends created in her honor.
