This painting, "Yellowwood Lake," is a celebration of one of the most beautiful spots in Southern Indiana. Located deep within the Yellowwood State Forest, this lake is a place of absolute peace. I wanted to capture that feeling of standing on the shore during a bright afternoon when the colors of the forest are at their absolute peak.
 
The entire scene is built with a vibrant, textured approach. By layering bold circles of color, I was able to mimic the way light filters through the canopy and reflects off the water. It creates a sense of depth and energy that makes the forest feel alive.
 
About the Piece
I used a wide canvas for this work to recreate the immersive feeling of being surrounded by the woods. The palette is full of golds, deep reds, and bright greens. Each stroke is placed to build a mosaic of the landscape. It is a modern take on the traditional forest scene, focusing on the rhythm and the joy of the colors found in our local heritage.

Why I Painted It
Southern Indiana has such a rich natural history, and Yellowwood is a true staple of that. There is a specific kind of quiet you find there that is hard to find anywhere else. As an artist, I am always looking for ways to bring that outdoor serenity inside.
 
My goal with this piece was to take a familiar local landmark and show it through a lens of pure color and light. I hope it reminds you of a favorite weekend trip or simply brings a sense of the Indiana wilderness into your daily life.
