This piece, "Snow Day at IU," is a tribute to one of my favorite places to paint. There is something truly special about the way the Indiana University campus transforms when it is covered in a fresh layer of snow. I wanted this painting to capture that magical, traditional Christmas feeling that stays with you from childhood.
 
The scene focuses on the iconic architecture and the winding paths of the campus. By using oil on canvas, I was able to build up rich textures that mimic the heavy blankets of snow and the warm glow of the lights.
 
About the Piece
I chose a wide format for this painting to really showcase the atmosphere of a quiet winter evening. The brushwork is thick and full of movement. I wanted the snow to feel like it had its own energy, reflecting the golden light from the streetlamps and the deep blues of the winter shadows.

Why I Painted It

My goal was to create a piece that feels both familiar and enchanting. Whether you spent years on this campus or you just love the beauty of a traditional winter scene, I hope this painting brings a sense of wonder and warmth into your home.
